INTRO
This year we are to produce a piece of work that shows our interest, our talent, and our future ambitions. My dream is to one day become an established director producing fictional drama, whether it be for tv or film. My objective for this module is to produce a short fictional drama, something I can use to show my talent and creativeness. Originally I had planned to work in a group, though I have decided to work on my own so that I can develop my skills and gain an understanding in all aspects of filmmaking. I know it will be difficult and demanding, but I am willing to do the job.
At the moment I have no concrete ideas, only concepts or thoughts, and I am hoping to perhaps develop them or new ones into a full synopsis for me to create a story that I can work on as well as be enthusiastic about.

i finaly came up with a few ideas that would possibly work, the one that stands out to me in the present stage is the first one, as it also is the most developed idea so far.
Idea 1
A guy, who is married, has a conversation with his wife about the possibility of having kids. his wife hopes that someday soon they start a family of their own, while the guy is unsure as he does not know whether he wants to or not. He decides not to, and his wife resents his decision and their marriage starts to deteriorate. This affects him mentally, and he starts to appear/arrive in places without knowing how, as if he magically teleported (but really he is having black outs, maybe he sees a doctor i haven’t figured this part out yet). at first he doesn’t know where he is when he mysteriously arrives at these places, but after a while he takes a better look as his conscious mind begins to remember that the places he appears in are places from his childhood memory (i.e. primary school that has changed though he has flashes of the old one right where the new one is, or a derelict house that he used to live in when he was 5, or a play ground area in a park he used to go to often etc). While he is staring at these places and remembering, he is hearing/seeing himself in situations when he was a kid. This changes him, making him a better man. He realises that deep down he does want to have a family of his own, so he rushes back to his wife, and breaks the news, but finds that she has moved on.
Idea 2
An evil gene (looking like a normal human being) roams around granting wishes to whomever he sees fit to handle them. However, he approaches people who live bad lives, as he is cursed. His curse leads his chosen subjects to fall into the trap of keeping their souls for eternity. Whilst we are watching his daily grim-reaper type role, the gene is narrating about the subjects he chooses, i.e. what kind of person they are. The gene is in some sense is a good person and believes in what he is doing (as ‘the right thing’), but he comes across as a dark man, with an eerie voice.
Idea 3
A man/woman is writing a story/book. As they write the story, we see the characters acting it out. The characters are almost based on the people around them, i.e. friends/family/co-workers.
Idea 4
A nerdy genius creates an android that looks, acts and sounds like a normal person. Just like his creator he desires a companion. The nerdy genius creates one in the female form, however she does not like the male android and tries to get off with real men. The male android becomes upset and attempts to kill his creator, but fails to, and so the genius pulls the plug on both the androids.
Idea 5
A person develops a case of dementia/Alzheimer’s disease. His/her condition starts to get worse n worse. Whilst this is happening the person loses their identity and becomes a different person before they’re mind is gone for good.

after disscussing my ideas with some people, i decided that most of them were either not doable or just too complicated to produce. though the second idea came accross as intereting to my lecturer, it wasn’t my favourite idea to begin with. however after discussing it’s possibility/potential as an idea that CAN be developed, i’ve decided to see where it would lead.

as i had not come up with a full story outline for th genie idea, one thing that stuck to my mind after speaking to my lecturer, is to not make my idea to obvious. when i think of not trying to be obvious, the thing that comes to mind is a twist, which is used to catch the viewer off-guard. which is how i came up with this possible scenario……….
………..The genie takes souls of bad people, however one person becomes good along the way, something happens to him which makes him have an epiphany of sorts, this makes the genie become human instead, making the person become the gene. The person telling the story is the person who becomes the genie.

What is a Genie?
will it be visible or invisible?
- if invisible, how will i show it or make it clear to the audience?
how will the genie look, appear and dissappear, and use his magic?

researching into genies wasn’t easy at first. i quickly realised there was more to them than the ordinary interpretation. and i knew the only way to gain a better understanding was to look into ‘jinns’, which were mentioned in the Q’uran several times. to spare myself some time, i asked a friend of mine, who is a devout muslim, if he knew anything about jinn’s, or knew where i could find out information that can explain what they are as a whole.
as my idea is based on the concept of a genie (jinn), i felt that the better the understanding i have of one, the better i can develope the character/story. because i realised that a genie (jinn) doesn’t grant wishes as such, i’ve changed my idea to give a better understanding to the audience of what a genie is, because i feel that we shouldn’t be believing in fairytales in this present day and age.
CHANGED IDEA…………..
…………….The genie is of human form, is only seen by who he wants to see him. Some he helps, others he manipulates. He approaches people occasionally, and guides them away from the right path, and messes their lives up.
although it might not sound as interesting as before, it is still a basic idea and would need developing. i feel that it is possible to keep it in the same style that i have in mind, keeping it eerie and potentialy strange.

As part of my process to develop my idea, I’ve looked into angels and demons after watching wings of desire. I came across the concept of fallen angels, and the concept of angels being made from light, demons from fire, and man from clay. In most cases, you would see in a film, that when an angel falls to earth, they would become human, losing their spiritual form. however if they are made from light, then they should stay as light, even if they lose their wings/abilities. This gives reason for the main character to carry on, unseen to the world, being almost the same as an angel, but with free will, and therefore able to do bad as well as good.
