- New Understanding
It has come to my knowledge through my research that the stories of genies derived from the middle-east, and are believed to be mere spirits that live amongst humans unknown, like demons. They have their own free will and tend to lead humans off from the path of good in life. They don’t grant wishes as such but merely use their powers/abilities to do as they please.
It is written in the Quran that king Sulaiman was able to tame creatures/beings not just of a physical form, but also of a spiritual form and came across the jinn (genie). Though the demon king Ashmedai, impersonated him had took his throne, banishing him for eternity.
King sulaiman’s legend was only once raised again after in the tales of a thousand and one nights (Arabian nights). Where a jinn who was released from a jar by a fisherman, spoke of how king sulaiman had his minister bound him n bring him in front of the king. Sulaiman requested that he believe in allah (god), however he refused and the king placed him in a cucurbit (jar/lamp), sealing it with lead and stamped his royal ring onto it, and casting it into the ocean, where he had not been found for hundreds of years.
It is from this folk tale that the western part of the world made their own adaptation of the jinn to the world. It just goes to show how influential media can be, as many people believe genies grant wishes etc.

Angel Research
i looked into ‘fallen angels’ after watching ‘wings of desire’ (wim wenders), which influenced me to do so. it was something i originaly watched to get me thinking about the concept of being unseen (invisible). though it got me wanting to use the idea of an angel falling and losing it’s wings. so i hope to incorporate it into my story, or maybe giving the main charcter, a background and a purpose within the film.

———————————
as part of my research into angels, i looked up angel and demon names to give to some of my charcters. as you can see below there are the names and meanings of the names i have chosen. i feel that the meanings of these names represent the characters best, which is how i chose the names.
Elijah – Angel of Innocence – Believed to have created the tree of life. Guardian of all new born children and those who die at an early age
Raguel – Angel of God – oversees good behaviour of other angels
Sariel – Angel of guidance – The prince of prsence and the angel of healing.

Films/Video
wings of desire
constantine
Munich
with Constantine and Munich, i watched them both and liked how they were shot, and i began to think about how i want my storyboard to be, and the types of shots i want to use. within these two films, there are quite a few close up shots with the sounds being emphasised to bring attention to the action happening. i want to try and do the same with my film.
—————————–
American Psycho
Fight Club
with ‘American Psycho’ and ‘Fight Club’, i liked the idea/style of narration that they used. it’s from the main charcaters point of view, and they explain what they’re thinking or what is happening in the film. maybe it is something i could use within my film.

narrations
Morgan freeman is probably one of the best narrators. he has a distinctive voice that suits many films, and the story telling role that they scripts they have him read. it’s made me realise that if i have a narration over my film, the narrator will have to have a distinctive voice that suits the script as well as the character.
Cosmic Voyage – Imax – Morgan Freeman
